Following a unanimous decision taken by the council of Düsseldorf, the capital of the federal state North Rhine Westphalia, the ”Benrath Palace and Park Foundation” was founded as an independent and private foundation on 3 March 2000 in the domed hall of the Schloss.
Among the founding benefactors, apart from the city of Düsseldorf, are the company Henkel in Düsseldorf, the patron Udo van Meeteren, the Stadtsparkasse (savings bank) Düsseldorf, and the association ”Rettet Torhaus und Ostfügel von Schloss Benrath” (Save the entrance gate and east wing of Benrath Palace). Other benefactors are the company Siemens as well as the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (Rhineland countryside association) in Cologne.
In accordance with its statutes the principal objectives of the foundation are:
Schloss and Park
- Maintenance as architectural and horticultural work of art
- To ensure preservation during use
- Availability to the public
All three aims will be realised through the operation of three museums, the variety of which will offer visitors a wide range of exhibitions, collections, lectures, conducted tours, seminars and events.
